One of the biggest dangers faced at our waste management facilities is vehicle traffic. Landfills and transfer stations have many moving parts including public, commercial, operations and pedestrian traffic. Add to that site constraints, limited space and rapidly increasing waste tonnages and potentially dangerous situations are created. There are many design and layout factors that influence traffic and many options for controlling site traffic, some more successful than others. This presentation goes over tricks of the trade, what works and doesn’t work and the science and psychology behind all of it.
