Because of increasingly stringent discharge standards, a growing number of wastewater treatment plants are refusing to treat landfill leachate, or requiring that leachate be pretreated before being conveyed to their facilities. Consequently, on-site treatment systems need to guarantee safe long-term discharge back into the natural environment. This report reviews and summarizes the findings of recent publications that have addressed on-site leachate treatment processes.
